Novatec™ HD is a high density polyethylene that with control of density, mean molecular weight and molecular weight distribution, caters for a wide range of needs such as films, crates and tanks.
■ Characteristics
The general characteristics of high density polyethylene include the following.
1) Characteristics of workability and product physical qualities occur due to density, molecular weight, molecular weight distribution, branch structure (type, distribution of branching degree).
2) Rigidity rises with density.
3) Appearance varies with the degree of crystallinity. HDPE products have a large crystal size, and are semitransparent.
4) Has extremely good shock resistance (cold resistance). This is because transition point of polyethylene is very low (Tg = -120°C).
5) For adhesion and printing, as the surface tension is low, the surface must be modified by corona discharge treatment or flame treatment etc.
6) Has excellent water and chemical resistance. However, the higher its density, the easier it is for surfactants to cause stress cracks.
7) Has excellent electrical properties. In particular, dielectric loss is low and it has good electric insulation.
8) Extremely low coefficient of water absorption.
9) Easily permeated by gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen etc., but with low moisture permeability, so excellent for moisture-protective films.
Applications
Novatec™ HD is used widely in fibres for fishing nets etc., bags such as carrier bags, gas pipes, car fuel tanks, etc.
1) Injections: caps, engineering components, food containers
2) Extensions: ropes, flat yarn, monofilaments
3) Coatings: steel tube coatings
4) Films: carrier bags
5) Pipes: gas pipes, water pipes
6) Hollow parts: detergent containers, fuel tanks
